How we make money
Last updated:
TaskVerdict is independent and tests products hands-on. Some links on this site are affiliate links: if you click one and buy, we may earn a commission, at no extra cost to you. This never affects our rankings.
How we earn money
- Affiliate commissions — some outbound "Visit" links go through
/go/<tool>/and, once a tool's affiliate program has approved us, carry a referral code. Links are marked "Affiliate link" or "not an affiliate link" next to the button, and userel="sponsored"where they are affiliate links. - Later (not yet live): a clearly separated premium tier and data/B2B reports. If we ever sell sponsored placements, they will be labelled "Sponsored", shown apart from rankings, and never change a score or a position in a ranking.
We do not accept payment for rankings, scores, reviews, inclusion in tests, or "best" labels. No company can pay to remove criticism or results.
Why commissions can't change rankings
- Separate systems. Affiliate data lives in its own file and is used only to build outbound links. The ranking code, the Ask recommendation engine and the data it reads have no access to it — an automated check fails the build if they ever import it, or if the Ask data contains any commercial field.
- Rankings come only from tests. Scores are computed from published test suites and weights per job (methodology v0.2). Untested tools are marked NOT YET TESTED, get no score and are never ranked — whether or not they pay commissions.
- Free and non-paying tools can win. Many tools we cover have no affiliate program at all, and a free tool can be #1.
- Reviewer access disclosed. When a vendor gives us free or discounted access for testing, we say so on the test page. Free access does not buy coverage or a better score.
FTC and other disclosure rules
We follow the U.S. FTC Endorsement Guides and comparable rules (e.g. the UK CAP Code, EU consumer law and Israel's consumer protection rules): disclosures are clear, placed near the links they apply to, and repeated on every page that contains affiliate links.
